Hiya, everyone!

All of us have heard about feedback events during our time on deviantArt. Many of us have participated in them, while others have declined to do so for various reasons. Some of these reasons include fear of receiving critique on one's own work, fear of being attacked for critiquing someone's work, fear of not knowing what to say, and feeling inadequate to critique a deviation from someone who is perhaps more skilled than we are--especially if the deviation is created using a medium to which we are unaccustomed.
We especially want to focus on this last reason.
Here is a conversation that we had recently in a dA chat room (names have been changed):

Receiving criticism is at least as difficult as writing one in the first place. Even reading what other artists have written about your work can be challenging. However, learning of the opinions of others regarding your work is one of the most important tools you can use to improve.
This blog is meant to be a guide on how to take the most out of the feedback you receive to grow as an artist.
Open your mind
No matter how you feel about your own work, try to be neutral when reading the feedback you've received. It's much too easy to subconsciously decide that your work is good just the way it is and end up denying the existence of the faults, or vice versa. This will only make reading the feedback harder for yourself. It's okay to be proud. It's okay to be disappointed. It's not okay to disapprove of other artists' opinions simply because they differ from your own feelings.

We're pleased to announce the results of the first ever Feedback Frenzy competition, held in early July as part of Project Educate's Feedback Week! Did you miss the competition? You can read all about it here!
Thank you for your patience in waiting for the results; we've had a lot of work in figuring out the winners from thousands of critiques!

Scoring
We had nearly 2,000 critiques during the event! There were over 160 members who were divided into 40 teams. Between them, there were thousands of deviations to be critiqued! The teams had one week to critique as many deviations as possible-- BUT to do so while maintaining the high standard of quality we are so proud to have here on deviantART!
It's easy to write a lot of comments, but it's difficult to write a lot of phenomenal comments! In scoring, we focused on both quantity and quality of critiques. In

The seniors have decided to host a Scuzzle (scavenger hunt & jigsaw puzzle) amongst themselves. We have hidden 15 pieces of this Scuzzle, but there are clues below to help you find them!
After finding the pieces (therefore finishing the scavenger hunt) and putting them together (therefore completing the jigsaw puzzle), you should end up with one final piece left to submit to deviantART as either a scrap or deviation.

During previous weeks of dA Community Relations' #projecteducate, we have learned about the importance of giving and receiving critique for our work. Now, let's shake things up a bit!

Feedback Frenzy! (Comment Contest)

A group of very, very devious deviants at #FeedbackFrenzy are hosting
a comment/critique contest as part of #projecteducate: Feedback Week!

The contest is now closed to entrants and will start on Monday July 2nd!

PE Feedback: Welcome and FEEDBACK FRENZY!

WHAT: "Feedback Frenzy" is a week-long game that ANYONE (yes, even YOU!) can play. The goals are ① to step outside your comfort zone and practice giving feedback to others, even if not in your own genre, ② to meet new deviants from across dA, and ③ to receive as much high-quality, usable feedback on your work as possible.

WHEN: July 2^nd to July 8^th (one full week)

WHERE: All of deviantART!

HOW:

Entrants will sign up to critique and include art they want critiqued.
You will be split in teams of four based on medium.
You'll have one week to write your best critiques for as many of the pieces as you can.
Comments/critiques - you don't need to be a premium member to participate!
#FeedbackFrenzy staff will rate the critiques for consistency and quality.
Since quality matters, one fantastic critique is worth more than 10 poor critiques!
The team with the highest total number of points wins!

Great feedback is hard to find - unless you know where to look. We are looking to you, the deviantART community to show us some of the best critiquing this site has to offer! Beautiful artwork is featured here all the time, now it's time to feature some beautiful comments too. So give us the best you've got - make your comments useful, accurate, applicable, informative, and friendly (but honest) - pull together resources and provide direction for the artist. Remember, you'll be receiving comments through this contest as well as giving them, so write the kind of critique that you'd really love to get in return.

PRIZES:

Each member of the winning team will receive a One Year Subscription (from Community Relations + $Moonbeam13) as well as these donated prizes!

The second place team will win a DeviantWEAR T-Shirt for each group member in addition to these donated prizes!
